I thought I'd drop in my opinion. Since we all know a little about oils and what they do. I'll just go with why I went with my choice. I switched to Redline gear oils three years ago. I did the rear differential, tranny and water wetter for the coolant. I looked into the motor oil and what I learned back then kinda makes sense. When you start looking at products made for racing, which what Redline, Royal Purple, NEO and Amsoil are made for. Then you would know they have a much higher viscosity breakdown then other conventional pure synthetic oils such as Mobil one. One can get complacent when talking about who's the best and why they are. All these manufactures like to throw numbers out. One with the highest number wins right? Well, yes and no. For one, remember where talking Racing motor oils with Flash point ratings all above 470°F. The Flash/Fire Point Test determines the lowest temperatures at which application of a flame will cause lubricant vapors to ignite (flash point) and sustain burning for five seconds (fire point). Lubricants with higher flash and fire points exhibit more stable volatility characteristics and are safer to use and transport. This is just what these racing oils do. They are made for characteristics far greater than our VG30dett motors under any conditions. Where our motors are set with 7000 to 7200 redline rev limiters, these oils where designed for racing where both temperatures and Rpm's are well into the 10,000+ range for long duration's. So really in my mind the greater advantages are less oil changes because where not going to break these oils down anytime soon. So they all say you can change your oil using their products at 25,000 miles, but recommend 12,000 to 18,000 if the motor is older or you do a lot of stop and go driving. Now with that statement alone, can you see yourself breaking down any of these oils? I think not. So don't get evolved with the numbers game so much as the companies do with each other. But if you must know about each companies own claim here's where they stand based on information provided by themselves on Fire points. Racing oils: Redline has a Break down around 600°F Royal Purple has a break down around 480°F Amsoil has a break down around 471°F NEO has a break down around 470°F Conventional oil: Mobil One Syn has a break down around 455°F Go here to this Amsoil site to see that they even list Redline above them in our oil class 10w - 30 and all the other oil flash point scores, expect 5W-30, which we don't use. But again regardless, where not going to break any of these oils done which ever brand you prefer :) [ http://mcgeerf.tripod.com/americansyntheticoil/id17.html ] Hope any of this helps, Jerry ( ZBlacktt )
